Legacy

My father, Alwyn Marsh, has been tragically taken from us a month ago this day.

He was a unique man. A man who could talk to almost anyone as if he had known them for years. That was a trait of his family but he was exceptional at it. He was a man that was loving and caring, one that put himself ahead of others on countless occasions. A man that was a husband of over 30 years. A man who at the same age that I am now had raised 3 children with my mother for 8 years. He impressed upon us honor, love, thought, logic, humor, and family, which we then impressed on others. He continued this upon his 3 beautiful grandchildren.

He was a man that didn’t shy from the work that needed to be done, even if it wasn’t necessarily his own. He was a man who could cook, build, repair, drive, and so much more. You name a hat, he had likely worn it at some time. This man didn’t believe in it couldn’t be done, yet he knew his limits. His limits never stopped him though because that is when his wondrous talking skill would find the help he needed to get the task finished. Those that could help would do so without any hesitation, for they knew that he would have, and likely have already, done the same in a heartbeat.

Regretfully, that heartbeat has stopped. His time as a man has ended. But because of who he was as a man; Son, Brother, Friend, Husband, and Father; he will start something else. Those that were close to him as a man knew he was an amazing one. I do not believe though that any of us had any idea about how far his impressions had gone. It is a sorry thought to know now that he affected hundreds if not thousands of people in a similar way as he had affected us.

I knew and loved him as a man as many did. He is now in our thoughts and memories and we will be better for knowing him. Because of all this, he has become something more than a man. Something most people can only dream of becoming. He is a Legend. He is our Legend. So even though we are saddened, we will make it so that his life continues to affect people in the amazing way that he had done. I believe the world could be better for it.

May we never let his Legacy die.
