Does anyone else find it interesting that we take so many things for granted. Technology has taken control of our lives, but that is fine by me. My life thrives off of my computer and the Internet. Be it for e-mail, web serving, or playing a whole different persona in an online game. That is how live is for myself, and many other people in the world. Progress, ain't it grand.
You should all be aware of my love with Apple and their products, well I recently added 2 more into the mix. In September, I went out and got a brand new 24" Imac. I'm in love with its slim design and just plain beauty, and it may soon replace my TV as well if I can find the adapter to do it. Oh, and the new, slimmer keyboard is amazing. The keys are similar to the ones on the Macbooks, but are spread out more like a regular keyboard. Apple has incorporated the usually multimedia functions, along with it's normal brightness and volume control. It also does something that all keyboards should do. If you only tap the Caps Lock key, it will not turn it on. You have to actually press it for it to work. This is also the case for the Eject key. Sometimes it is the simple things that affect you the most.
Since I am the topic of the Imac, I should talk about my switch from stripes to spots. When I bought the Imac it came with the current version of Os X, 10.4 Tiger. About a month and a half later, Apple released 10.5 Leopard onto the world. It essentially looks the same as before, with a some little differences. The menu bar is now somewhat transparent, but the real visual chance is with the Dock. It is now by default resting upon a reflective shelf which has a small glow as small glow for an app that is open. There have been quite a few people who do not like these specific changes and have gone back to what they were used to in 10.4. However, I personally like these new additions. The best and about these updates seem to be the new features and applications. Time machine, which was probably the most anticipated, it is a rate to the backup application with a beautiful graphical interface. It has a unique ability to "go back in time", then you can go ahead and specify which file or files that you wish to restore. It probably seems quite arbitrary until you see it. spaces, which is not something that is a new, allows you to switch between multiple desktops. Any of these desktops can be configured to hold specific applications and you can switch between these desktops with a simple keystroke. this is something that is actually very useful to your everyday computing. I could talk about 10.5 all day, but I think you should experience it for yourself.
OK, the fun stuff. I had been awaiting this one since January, along with thousands of other people. The Iphone is an amazing device (which is not even supposed to work in Canada) that incorporates a cellphone and a music player. I know, I know, there is nothing new about that, except for the fact that Apple made it as user friendly as the Ipod. This was also their first device their new multitouch technology. This new interface concept allows the user to touch the screen instead of trying to work the keys like on a normal cell phone. I can touch the screen to do things like dial numbers, play and skip through music, and switch applications. This is similar to what certain smart phones are able to do right now, but there is so much more than just that. If you wish to scroll through your contacts on the Iphone, you slide your finger across the screen. You can pinch with 2 fingers to zoom in on pictures or web pages. Oh yeah, it surfs the web. It does everything that I want it to do and more, and it does it better than any other phone/mp3 player I have had.
Am I biased? Maybe, but these opinions are not in my head because I love Apple products. Till 2006, i really didn't use anything but windows. By the end of Feb, 2006, I will never buy another windows machine. Is apple perfect? No, I actually had a not so fun software issue on my Imac that stopped me from playing WoW. It was fixed about 2 weeks ago. So everything is back to normal for me. My old Imac, it seems, is being taken over by the GF. Which is great.
Anyways, that's the down low on my latest toys. Hope you enjoyed it. Catch you all in a month or so. May have another post by then. "May"
